Openness as paradigm shift in society

John Thackara wrote ‘Openness is more than a commercial and cultural issue, it’s a matter of survival’. His statement indicates that openness is more than some economic model or way in which a culture deals with its surroundings: it is a state of mind which is vital for dealing with current circumstances.

Dasein als Design – Graduation Show Design Academy 2011

‘Dasein als design’. De krachtige oneliner van designfilosoof Henk Oosterling uit zijn Premsela-lezing 2009, leek niets aan kracht ingeleverd te hebben tijdens de Dutch Design Week 2011. Designproducten zijn inmiddels stevig genesteld in het dagelijks leven en dat valt af te lezen aan de enorme populariteit van de alweer tiende editie van de Dutch Design Week. Met een overvol programma van meer dan 300 events, 1800 ontwerpers en 150.000 bezoekers barstte Eindhoven bijna uit zijn voegen, of in elk geval uit het korte tijdsbestek van een krappe week.
